Here's how it goes: So lets say you have new infantry... They have regular infantry stats (unless your strategy changes them) After a battle, they may gain +1 combat experience; they gain more from larger battles, but practically none from facing very small ones, (ex: 1 infantry vs 1 infantry) Combat experience would raise ARB, range, and Hit Points. NOT defense and offense. Sound good?

Afterwinds units are tracked by numbers, not individually. Not possible to implement, sorry.

I dont understand? I'm not saying that one single troop in the entire army would have experience, but once 1 unit of infantry has fought many battles, they will be better with ARB, range, and HP.

Im saying its not possible because you cant track one single infantry. it doesnt work like that.

What about the stack?

Most likely not as Natteh said. Afterwind units are tracked by numbers not by units so same problem not matter how much units. (or stack in this case)

And how would you represent things to the player if you combined it all into a stack? Show the experience of every single unit individually upon mouseover? And NatFan's point still stands...

Vindictive had it right. What he's saying is, there is NO WAY to keep track of that one single infantry during a battle; And if you don't know what unit it is, how would you give him experience?

After the battle, the surviving infantry would have combat experience.

ex: 5 infantry have experience. When you put your mouse over the infantry, you would see basically this: infantry: 5 (or whatever it says when your scroll over units) experience: 1 and then: infantry: 95 experience: 0

Was the second display you gave (95 infantry units) an average after combining the first 5? Now it's sounding a bit better, but if you want to split units from the stack potential problems could arise, like the fact that they all suddenly lost their experience.

And what happens when they go into another battle? They're supposed to earn more combat experience. But it won't be trackable who survives and who dies. Or say you combine stacks of infantry. It's impossible to keep track of which ones have combat experience. Troops move around, they mix, they die, they split. Afterwind cannot track these specific movements, because it doesn't track individual units, as far as I'm aware. While the concept of "You win, you get experience" may sound simple, it can't tell WHO has experience, therefore it cannot use that experience.

Exactly what I was talking about. Should the code be re-written to allow for tracking the statistics of individual units, it would still be a messy job to show its strength. In fact, I don't know of a single turn-based strategy game that has a free-roaming map like AW's that features individual unit tracking. Furthermore, it would lead to extreme autism with which units to use which would just end up being annoying due to their differences in strength. It needlessly complicates the game. And I still can't think of a decent way to display the unit data to the player. If I was able to, I'd be a great innovator in the industry!
