"Unfair" battle outcomes

Time and time again I hear people complaining about unfair battle outcomes. "Surely my superior force should've defeated that puny army?", they say. Well, in most case, sure, but there are exceptions, and they are absolutely necessary.

First of all, if you're interested in battle mechanics, I can recommend you to put the slowest battle speed in your settings - this will show the actual rolls (damage) and help you understand the mechanics. Also, here's a FAQ battles entry. Basically, every unit normally has 7 HP (hit points) and a certain range of attack and defense rolls (depending on the situation). That range is always 1 to max attack/defense (which you can see on the units page / units menu in the game).

Now, if you're extremely unlucky, your unit will roll 1 several times in a row, only dealing 1 damage each time. It would take 8 hits just to take one enemy unit down. Every time you attack, an enemy unit fires back (using their defense stats). So, every time you will also be taking damage. Again, in an extreme situation, enemy can take down one unit per shot.

Things like that happen, and the randomness and unpredictability factor that they bring is extremely important to keep the gameplay exciting and being closer to the real world, where as you know, pure numbers don't always win and unpredictable outcomes happen all the time.

The fog of war, as Clausewitz said, where actions have unintended consequences.

AtWar is not a game of perfect and predictable calculations that would bring a mathematician joy. Sometimes, you just have to accept your luck.

Iron fist is rly hard to beat lol,
I know bcs i steted too:
2 iron fist inf can beat 5 perfect def inf.
5 perfect def inf. cant beat 2 iron fist inf

I remember once a PD inf beat one of my IF inf (I was defending) in a Eu+ 3 vs 3

Lobby is done. The game is now under rapid development after months of preparations and preliminary work. If all goes well and life doesn't interfere too much, we're hoping to have some kind of version available for testing by summer.

the range of luck is about ±50%. In my opinion its to much!
