Minato Indeed was an Hokage but Kakashi was just as well and it took to Itachi less then a minute to send him to hospital. Minato on the other hand faced young Obito and won. Minato is indeed a war hero but in the fourth shinnobi war Itachi was way more useful.

Itachi was and waaaaaaay more useful in general, but as far as personality and enjoyment go I enjoyed the time I got to see minato far more.

He was also blind when he beated Orichimaru the second time in less than a minute. And orichimaru is top tier.

In Minato favour I would say he was talented and quick enough to save homself from all the other Kagas and saved konoha from Obito and the fox. Also he is known as an inventor of shinnobi moves so he is got plenty of options to oppose his enemies. So beating him would take real talent.

Orochimaru was chosen to be Hokage let's remember that. he beated the third hokage and even after he had his hands taken from him and got sick to actual death he held against Naruto's jubi's worst attack and against two senins attacking him at the same time. at the beginning of the show even Kakashi admitted he is frightened by him

2. We'v seen Minato teleporting himself and cutting Madara's throat, unless Itachi takes control of the buisness quickly he will have to go defensive for a long while.

To Itachi's favour I would said Minato's marxist son brought Konoha's destruction while Itachi seted a better example.

1. That's outrageous. you can't disrespect shinnobies like Orochimaru and Kakashi like that. Kakashi mastered every shinobi aspect and reached the top of every category except amount of chakra. Orochimaru reached immense amount of power and learned more jutsus than anyone (he learned every kind of jutsu but two which are shringan and senin mode). even he was armless and several weeks before his death he faced the full wrath of the legendary chakra of Kurama and stood tall (what Jiraya failed to do). Same way for Kakashi. he learnt more than thousand jutsus. beated Mighto Guy in Taijutsu. was considered a genius while he still was 10 years old and during the third shinnobi war he LEADED AND WON IN EVERY FRONT OF THE WAR. he did'nt become Hokage out of mistake. he proved himself unreplaceable.

2. Itachi Eyeskills and genius is huge bonus. and that is why I think he is going to do. but you can't disregard the legendary talent of Minato so easily. in case Minato predicts Itachi strategy and just runs and wait to attack. Is Itachi going after him? while he is on move. how quick is he going to predict Minato next attack? how is he going to stop a guy who can throw Rasengans or teleport himself? Even the Raikaga could'nt catch him. and let me remind you that this a guy who managed to end world war by himself and overcome Obito and Madara (great genius of all time)'s Sharingan.

I will just add that Minato is one of the greatest inventors of all times. when Kakashi came up with his chidori he did it wrong and in dangerous way. Minato in a minute told him how to do it right. if anyone can overcome Itachi's eyes jutsu it's Minato
