Lovecraft transcribed the pronunciation of Cthulhu as "Khlûl'hu" and said that "the first syllable [of Khlûl'-hloo is] pronounced gutturally and very thickly. The u is about like that in full; and the first syllable is not unlike klul in sound, hence the h represents the guttural thickness.
Funny fact, ever since I was a child I learned how to pronounce "Cthulhu" I strangely remember watching cartoons, Scooby-doo to be exact and it had something to do with a Cthulhu... Well then you have Metallicas rendition "Call of the Ktulu"
